Collections and Filenames

Most GEOS-FPIT collections are reproduced in GEOS-IT with little change in content. Additional collections were added duplicating many of the lat-lon grid products with their native GCM cubed-sphere grid counterparts. Some users may benefit from increased accuracy by interpolating to their data locations directly from the cubed-sphere rather than using the lat-lon products, which are themselves interpolated fields.

While the file contents look similar in GEOS-IT and GEOS-FPIT, there have been changes to the string in the filename that identifies the collection type. This was necessitated by supporting different types of grids across the range of GMAO products. For example, the GEOS-FPIT lat-lon collection inst1_2d_lfo_Nx is identified in GEOS-IT as lfo_inst_1hr_glo_L576x361_slv, and the corresponding cubed-sphere collection is, lfo_inst_1hr_glo_C180x180x6_slv.
