Employment Opportunities in the GMAO
Civil Service Opportunities
Civil Service Opportunities at GMAO will be listed when they are available.
Scientific, Technical, and Administrative Support
Science Systems and Applications, Incorporated (SSAI) provides scientific and technical support for the GMAO's development activities and production systems. Support positions are announced via SSAI's web site, when they are available.
Research Institutes
Scientists employed by cooperative research institutes contribute to GMAO’s research and development activities, with funding partly through our core mission and partly through competed proposals.
The Goddard Earth Sciences, Technology and Research II (GESTAR-II) institute is supported through a collaborative agreement between NASA GSFC and a partnership led by the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). Other university partners include Morgan State Unversity, Pennsylvania State University, Colorado State University, and Arizona State University. More information on GESTAR II can be found at: https://gestar2.umbc.edu/
The Earth System Science Interdisciplinary Center (ESSIC) is a collaborative agreement between NASA GSFC and the University of Maryland, College Park. ESSIC scientists are presently based in the GMAO. Information about ESSIC can be found at: http://essic.umd.edu/joom2/.
Post-Doctoral Opportunities
NASA's Postdoctoral Program (NPP) is a NASA-wide opportunity for researchers who have recently obtained their PhD. GMAO staff welcome enquiries from potential NPP applicants who would like to propose research in any area of Earth System science using the GEOS modeling and analysis system.
