GMAO's Goddard Earth Observing System (GEOS) analysis of Total Precipitable Water (TPW) from former Hurricane Henri

Shown is the GMAO's Goddard Earth Observing System (GEOS) analysis of Total Precipitable Water (TPW) from former Hurricane Henri, which made landfall in Rhode Island as a tropical storm on August 22, 2021, with maximum sustained winds of 60 mph. TPW represents the total integrated moisture in the atmospheric column from the surface to the top of the atmosphere; or more simply, the total amount of water vapor in the atmosphere. If all that water vapor in the column fell as rain, the depth of the layer of water on the surface is calculated as TPW.

In this animation, deep reds and purples represent very high TPW values.
